On Dec. 10 Jerry taught: "He
[Messiah] was theos, not Ho
Theos, the Greek word theos
#2316 in Strongs Greek
Dictionary can refer to a
magistrate and only when used
with #3588 Ho can it be
understood as the Supreme
One."
Actually, "theos" without "ho"
refers to the Supreme One in
John 1:18: "No one has seen
God [unarticulated "theon"] at
any time; the only begotton
Son, who is in the bosom of
the Father, He explains Him"
(Literal Translation of the
Holy Bible, Jay P. Green Sr.,
general editor and
translator).
What is more, "theos" with
"ho" denotes the Messiah in
John 20:28, where Thomas
addresses Him as "my Lord and
my God [articulated "theos"]"
(Green's LITV).
Along this line, the names
"Elohim" and "Adonay"
(counterparts of "Theos" and
"Kurios," or "God" and "Lord")
are used of the Supreme One,
Yahweh, in Psalm 35:23: "Stir
up Thyself, and awake to my
judgment, even unto my cause,
my God and my Lord" (21st
Century King James Version).
Considered together, these
verses seem sufficient to
prove that Yahshua the
Messiah is Deity just like His
Father. Besides, the Messiah,
in calling God His own Father,
was "making Himself equal to
God [articulated "theo"]"
(John 5:18, LITV).
That's what I felt led to
testify. I've enjoyed
visiting your web site and
consider your Sacred Name
Directory a tremendous
resource. Sadly, I'm
concerned for Jerry's faith
in Yahshua.
Yours in the Messiah,
Frank Hutto

Dearest Fellow Searcher, Frank Hutto,
First allow me to apologize for the delay in my reply to your thoughtful e-mail
of 12-11-99.
I most assuredly mis-spoke concerning the use of Theos (2316)in Strongs', I
thank you for your correction. This should have read, Theos is a word that can
read as anything from 'sir' through 'magistrate' to 'G-d'. When it is used with
the modifier 'ho' it signifies 'The Almighty'.
You document your statements with proof quotes from Scripture. In Yahuchanan
1:18, the context is clear and 'ho' is unessary. The One whom no one has ever
seen can only refer to YHWH. The remainder of the statement in Yahuchanan shows
clearly that the Son is in a loving embrace with the Father and explains Him.
You have also quoted Yahuchanan 20:29, note that the Thomas quote here was
translated to Greek from the ethnic tongue preferred by those seen as this super
patriotic group of partisans. At this date we have no authoritative source for the
early writings in either Aramaic or Hebrew but Thomas, no doubt, uttered the oft
repeated Adonay Elohim. Frank, if we came face to face with a dearly loved
teacher we had buried some days before, your or I might say 'My Lord, it's
really you, Rabbi' even 'my G-d, it's really you, Rabbi'. Although this may not
be common today, the doubling was an accepted emphatic statement. If you believe
this to be taking the name of our G-d in vain, the Hebrews of old did not
consider this profanity but an exclamation of awe or reverence. You refer to Psa.
35:23, in my studies of Hebrew, I find no personal possessive pronoun 'my'. As I
see it, it was added for clarity in translation. Hendricksons Interlinear Bible
shows 136 Adonay and 430 Elohim, this would render Lord Mighty One or Lord G-d.
As a side note, we find in the very next verse, the words 3068 (YHWH) and 430
(Elohim) as it seemed quite common to double modify for emphasis.
Your quote of Yahuchanan 5:18 was troublesome. Frank, wasn't this an accusation
leveled by His Hellenisticly influenced enemies? We see Yahushua, himself
saying in Yahuchanan 14:28 'My Father is greater than I'. Aren't we forced to
believe him rather than the charges of his enemies? He compares himself to a
true grapevine, while his Father is described as the one who is the caretaker...
how is the vine equal to the husbandman? He proceeds to call us the branches (of
the same substance) of this vine. YHWH stands alone (Echad) as the not to be
defined Almighty Creator of all and the true savior of us. Yahushua is our
exemplar, he lives in perfect harmony with the will of the Father. He is the
first fruit of resurrection, giving us hope for everlasting life by way of that
path.
Blessings in the Name of the Father and Shalom in Yahushua, the re-purchaser,
our kinsman redeemer, in truth,
Br Jerry of Qumran Bet Community
