Hi sis YahChannah and everyone too,
I was sent an e-mail with what your post contains except there were 6
instead of 5 rules. The 6th one was number 1, "Put God
first". In
my first reply to the e-mail, all I asked the person who sent it to
me was, "are any of these rules backed by Torah. I'll copy and
paste
the answers I got in return with my comments following. Me and the
person only dealt with the 6 rules only. Here is how it went.
Subject: 6 simple rules
1. Put GOD first
answer given:
exo 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the
land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
my comments: I agree to this one. I would change the rule perhaps to
read differently as to not leave room to the idea that as long as
YHVH is "first" I could have something or someone in second place,
especially when the commandment reads NONE, but that's just me.
2. Free your heart of hatred.
answer given:
De 33:11 Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his
hands: smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of
them that hate him, that they rise not again.
my comments: I guess you'll have to explain your view of how the
verse in Deut, the blessing of the tribe of Levi, ties in
with "freeing your heart of hatred". Yacob seems to be
saying a
prayer to YHVH in behalf of Levi (his son and maybe his descendants),
as he was blessing Levi, for YHVH to smite them that rise against
Levi-tes.
I do agree with not hating others, Torah teaches me that. Here's one
of many verses to show it.
Family: (brother of same parents, half-brother, relative, kinship,
same tribe)
Le 19:17 `Thou dost not hate thy brother (one of the above) in
thy
heart; thou dost certainly reprove thy fellow, and not suffer sin on
him.
Others: ( friend, companion, fellow, another person, intimate,fellow-
citizen)
Ex 23:4 If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray,
thou
shalt surely bring it back to him again. 5 If thou see the ass
of
him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to
help him, thou shalt surely help with him.
It is from the prophets and the writings that we may see that hating
is ok. I do not consider these authoritative but perhaps even
anti-
Torah:
>From the Prophets:
Ps 31:6 I have hated the observers of lying vanities, And I toward
YHVH have been confident.Ps 101:8 I will early destroy all the
wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city
of the YHVH.
Ps 119:158 I have seen treacherous ones, And grieve myself, Because
Thy saying they have not kept.
Ps 139:21 Do not I hate, YHVH, those hating Thee? And with Thy
withstanders grieve myself?
Ps 139:22 With perfect hatred I have hated them, Enemies they have
become to me.
>From the Writings:
Pr 1:22 `Till when, ye simple, do ye love simplicity? And have
scorners their scorning desired? And do fools hate knowledge? [
simplicity, naivete; adj. simple, foolish, open-minded]
Pr 6:16 These six hath YHVH hated, Yea, seven are abominations to
His soul.
17 Eyes high—tongues false—And hands shedding innocent
blood—
18 A heart devising thoughts of vanity—Feet hasting to run to
evil—
19 A false witness who doth breathe out lies—And one sending
forth
contentions between brethren.
Pr 8:13 The fear of YHVH is to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and
an evil way, And a froward mouth, I have hated.
Ec 3:1 To everything—a season, and a time to every delight under
the
heavens:......8 A time to love, And a time to hate. A time of war,
And a time of peace.
A time to hate I do not see as Torah teaching. A time of war maybe.
The example of Abraham warring to save his nephew Lot.
In the NT we find Yahushua as saying:
Matt 5:43 `Ye heard that it was said: Thou shalt love thy
neighbour,
and shalt hate thine enemy;
44 but I—I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those cursing
you,
do good to those hating you, and pray for those accusing you falsely,
and persecuting you,
45 that ye may be sons of your Father in the heavens, because His
sun He doth cause to rise on evil and good, and He doth send rain on
righteous and unrighteous.
46 `For, if ye may love those loving you, what reward have ye?
do
not also the tax-gatherers the same?
47 and if ye may salute your brethren only, what do ye abundant? do
not also the tax-gatherers so?
48 ye shall therefore be perfect, as your Father who is in the
heavens is perfect.
But I cannot accept this no matter how someone may try to
"harmonize"
it. This is anti-Torah in the face:
Lu 14:26 `If any one doth come unto me, and doth not hate his
own
father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and
sisters, and yet even his own life, he is not able to be my disciple;
Either Yahushua did not or could not have said this (Luke 14:26) if
indeed he said what's on Matthew or I must lay aside anything he's
portrayed as having said based on the Luke verse.
3. Free your mind of worries.
answer given:
we don't have instruction to free our mind of worry, but that in
their trouble/distress, the israeilites turned to YHWH, who heard
them.
my comments: I don't know how the following may be seen or applied
but maybe it has to do with worries. Any input?
De 8:9 A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou
shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out
of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.
18 Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do
them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.
19 And the land shall yield her fruit, and ye shall eat your fill,
and dwell therein in safety.
20 And if ye shall say, What shall we eat the seventh year? behold,
we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase:
21 Then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and
it shall bring forth fruit for three years.
22 And ye shall sow the eighth year, and eat yet of old fruit until
the ninth year; until her fruits come in ye shall eat of the old
store.
De 28:8 YHVH shall command the blessing upon thee in thy
storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he
shall bless thee in the land which YHVH thy Alhym giveth thee.
4. Live simply.
answer given:
2Sa 15:11 And with Absalom <053> went <01980> (8804) two
hundred
<03967> men <0376> out of Jerusalem <03389>, that were
called <07121>
(8803); and they went <01980> (8802) in their simplicity
<08537>, and
they knew <03045> (8804) not any thing <01697>.
8537 Mt tom tome
from 08552; TWOT-2522a; n m
AV-integrity 11, upright 2, uprightly 2, uprightness 2, venture 2,
full 1, perfect 1, perfection 1, simplicity 1; 23
1) integrity, completeness
1a) completeness, fulness
1b) innocence, simplicity
1c) integrity
the other verse with simple in it refers to the act of being simple
of mind, not simple living: prov 1:22
my comments: I agree with your statement.
5. Give more.
answer given:
most of the giving done in the ot is from YHWH. we have instructions
about giving to YHWH in terms of offerings - pretty specific in terms
of how much and when. the tithing is specific amounts also, based on
what the people have in increase - so i guess there is no instruction
to give more than what is asked/required of us. if you decide to
give more is that bad or good? - an honest question. would that be
disobeying?
my comments: I believe you're correct, I haven't found anything
either about giving more nowhere in Torah besides the things you
mentioned except the taking care of the widows, the stranger and the
poor, which is not more but part of the giving law. To decide if it
is bad or good thing to give beyond what Torah describes involves
ethical thinking, something very little if none within Torah. But one
may take a vow to give more, then you must give, but remember the
consecuences of not fulfilling a vow.
6. Expect less.
answer given:
this, after looking up #5, doesn't make sense anymore. we can expect
to receive what YHWH says he'll give. expecting less doesn't mean
just of the good, it could also mean expecting less of the bad - not
a good thing, as i see it because then we would expect that YHWH
wouldn't hold us accountable for what we do.
my comment: I agree too.
[end of e-mail]--------------------
So at any rate, that's how that went about those rules.
Thanx for sharing them sis YahChannah and I would love to see how you
might back them up with Torah.
Peace and Shabbat Shabbaton to you,
Ethienne

Sis YahChannah answers:
This is not all from Torah but also from the Writings and the Prophets.
1. Put YHWH first
Deut 6:5 Love YHWH your Elohiym with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Deut 10:12-13
12 And now, Israel, what does YHWH, your Elohiym require of you, except to
fear YHWH, your Elohiym and to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to
serve YHWH, your Elohiym with all your heart and with all your soul,
13 To keep the commandments of YHWH, and His statutes,
which I command you this day for your good?
Deut 11:13 And it shall come to pass, if you shall
listen carefully to My commandments which I command you this day, to love
YHWH, your Elohiym , and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your
soul,
Deut 4:29 From when ever or where ever you are, you shall seek YHWH, your Elohiym, you shall find Him, if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
2. Free your heart of hatred.
Prov 10:12 Hatred stirs up strifes: but love coveres all sins.
Lev 19:18 You shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your brother as yourself: I am YHWH.
Lev 19:34 But the stranger that dwells with you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am YHWH, your Elohiym.
Ps 51:7-12
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter
than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones whichYou havet broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O Elohiym; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from Your presence; and do not take Your Qodesh Ruach from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation; and uphold
me with Your generous Ruach.
3. Free your mind of worries.
Isa 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose
mind is focused on You: because he trusts in You.
4. Live simply.
Gen 28:20-21
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If Elohiym will be with me, and will keep
me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put
on,
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall YHWH be my Elohiym:
Ps 37:16 A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.
Prov 15:16 Better is little with the fear of YHWH than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Ps 23:1-6
1 YHWH is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures: He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul: He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the
days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of YHWH for ever.
5. Give more.
Micah 6:10-11
10 Am I still to forget, O wicked house, your ill-gotten treasures and the
short measure, which is accursed?
11 Shall I acquit a man with dishonest scales, with a bag of false weights?
Deut 15:10 You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: because that for this thing YHWH, your Elohiym shall bless you in all you works, and in all that you put your hand to.
Prov 3:9-10
9 Honour YHWH with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your
increase:
10 So shall your barns be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst out with new wine.
Prov 22:9 A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.
Eccl 11:1 Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.
6. Expect less.
Expect great things for we are told :
2 Chr 1:10
10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this Your people, that is so great?
Jer 23:5-6
5 Behold, the days come, says YHWH, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, YHWH OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Ps 34:9 O fear YHWH, you His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him.
Ps 37:3-5
3 Trust inYHWH, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and truly you shall be fed.
4 Delight also in YHWH; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to YHWH; also trust in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.
Ps 37:18 YHWH knows the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
Ps 84:11-12
11 For YHWH, Elohiym is a sun and shield: YHWH will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.
12 O YHWH of hosts, blessed is the man that trusts in You.
May He bless your going out and your coming in, now and forevermore,
Sis YahChannah
